Hazelwood is a Preparatory School for girls and boys from the ages of 3 to 14. The staff:pupil ratio is 1:9. Children enter the pre-Prep, Chestnut, aged 3 or the Prep School at either 7 or 11. Vacancies may arise at other ages. Our aim is to prepare children for Public School Scholarships and Common Entrance, within a broad and enriching educational programme. Chestnut has been completely reconstructed (1996), with 6 superb new classrooms, a library, an art and science room and an assembly hall. At 7+ all Chestnut pupils move to the Prep School, based on the original fine Victorian building and games fields, around which has occurred much other development. This includes a gym, library, computer room, cafeteria catering, heated indoor swimming pool, 200 seat theatre and an integrated music suite and Chapel. A new 15 acre playing field was added in 1996. The School is accredited by the ISJC.
Since 1995 31 scholarships have been obtained and all Common Entrance candidates have passed to schools of their parents' first choice.
